Our Story: Rooted in the Past, Focused on the Future

In 1983, Denny and Randi Johnson partnered to acquire and merge Brown Oil and Brueswitz Oil. At that time, diesel fuel, gasoline, and home heating oil were the foundation of the business. As the early 1990s approached, home heating oil began to phase out, quickly being replaced by propane. Recognizing this shift, the Johnsons made the strategic decision to add propane to their offerings—a move that couldn't have been better timed. Propane helped fuel the growth of what became Johnson Oil and LP Co.

While enjoying an early and well-earned retirement was always important to the Johnsons, they also felt strongly that the company should remain locally owned and community-focused. Their legacy was built on honest service, hometown values, and a commitment to their neighbors.

In 2014, Jim Koenigs and Synergy Partners took over leadership of Johnson Oil and LP Co., carrying forward the Johnsons' original vision while bringing fresh energy and perspective. Over the next eight years, the company remained grounded in its mission: valuing customers as neighbors, providing reliable service, and always striving to do right by the community—even when it doesn't come at the lowest price. Because, for us, the true value of customer service is immeasurable.

Now, in 2025, we begin another exciting chapter. While much remains the same, we proudly mark a transition in ownership as Carl Brumm—a longtime partner—steps into a new role as owner. The story doesn't change much, and that's by design. We're still rooted in the same values, still committed to the communities we serve, and just now starting to hit our stride.

We're having more fun than ever and believe the next 20 years will bring as much opportunity and growth as the last. With deep roots and fresh momentum, Johnson Oil and LP Co. is here to stay—local, loyal, and ready for the future.
